Healthy Reefs & Ecosystems
Our Ports operate in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. We must play our part in the protection of this natural wonder and partner with groups and research programs to improve the health of our waterways.
Reef 2050 is the Australian and Queensland governments Long-Term Sustainability Plan to protect the Outstanding Universal Value of the Reef. This plan builds upon, and does not replace, the existing statutory and management arrangements for the World Heritage Area.
We will support healthy reefs and ecosystems by:
- Adopting industry-leading practices to protect and improve biodiversity and ecosystems
- Fostering collaborative research programs and knowledge sharing
Research and knowledge sharing is an important part of developing and maintaining healthy reefs and ecosystems. We currently partner with scientific and research organisations to monitor water quality and seagrass health in Cleveland Bay. Our website has realtime water quality data from buoys deployed in the Bay.
You can track our progress on our healthy reefs & ecosystems initiatives through our dashboard.
