Vibrant Waterfront Destinations
We ensure we stay connected with our community, providing Port tours for thousands of school children, community groups and businesses to enable them to see our operations first-hand. Our Port Open Days attract ten thousand visitors to our wharfs and our cruise ship markets at Quayside Terminal are loved by locals and tourists.
The usage of our old Port lands in Ross Creek has changed dramatically over the past 150+ years. Our 10 hectares of port land in Ross Creek have historically housed heavy industrial activities and will transform over the next 30 years into a vibrant community precinct connecting the city with the Port.
With over 300 days of sunshine a year, Townsville provides a true coastal lifestyle and we envisage waterfront public realm experiences across the entire extent of lands, connecting the Cruise Terminal to the City Centre on the west bank of Ross Creek, through to the breakwater Casino precinct on the east bank of Ross Creek. This will make Townsville even more liveable and loved by locals.
We commit to the revitalisation and re-activation of those waterfront areas, creating a gateway for educational tourism to showcase the Great Barrier Reef, marine science, commercial and retail activities and encourage community activities and access to the waterfront.
By creating new community spaces along the Creek, we will be able to tell our past, present and future Port story for generations to come through wayfinding and education signage and artwork.
We will create vibrant waterfront destinations through:
- Connecting the community and visitors with the port waterfront
- Telling the Port story
- Creating a gateway for educational tourism to showcase the Great Barrier Reef
